The June 2nd evening program is a fun, social event that brings together land managers, conservation partners, local residents and economic leaders, legislators and birders to celebrate and support the conservation success of the Kirtland’s Warbler. The event will be held at the beautiful Forest Dunes Golf Club and includes a silent auction, Michigan inspired beer and wine and an informative program.

This year we welcome Michigan advocate and author David Dempsey. Mr. Dempsey, has been active in conservation and environmental policy since 1982 and is the award-winning author of William G. Milliken: Michigan’s Passionate Moderate. For his Home Opener talk he will draw on his background and experience as environmental advisor to Michigan Governor James J. Blanchard, Executive Director for the Michigan Environmental Council and Presidential appointee to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. David’s topic for the evening will celebrate the Kirtland’s Warbler recovery as a key to the state’s reputation as a national conservation leader.

Registration for the event is $25. To find out more details and RSVP please call Jill Scarzo, Huron Pines Program Assistant, at (989) 448-2293, ext. 21.

The Alliance is happy to announce that once again this year we will be featuring a special piece from Michigan carver Michael Van Houzen as one of our silent auction items. Last year, Mr. Van Houzen donated a beautiful hand carved Kirtland’s Warbler that generated a great deal of interest and bidding fun! If you’re not familiar with Mr. Van Houzen’s “Songbirds of Wood” please visit his website – www.vanhouzen.com
