Chapter Event – Fall Warblers at Reeds Lake – Grand Rapids Audubon Club Event

September 26, 2015 8:00 AM

Trip Leader: Steve Minard

Reeds Lake is still one of the better spots in the area for warblers. Catching the right time does seem to be trickier and the peak fall dates seem to have shifted later. Hopefully this date works, if it does, we can expect about 10 species of fall warblers. In recent years, good numbers of Blackpoll, Yellow-rumped, Nashville, Black-throated Green, and Tennessee Warblers have been sighted here. The combination of residences, lake, marsh, and remnant woodlands does seem to produce a variety of birds at this location.

Essentials: Meet on the northwest end of Darby where it meets Reeds Lake Blvd near the bluff. Reach Darby off Bonnell. Bonnell is off Lake Dr midway between Breton and Hall St in East Grand Rapids at 8:00 AM. We plan to walk a 1-mile route and retrace our steps to Darby.

Safety Hazards: Bugs are possible and poison ivy grows along side the road. Take precautions. The road is open to traffic, so watch for cars, bikes, lawnmowers and ORVs. Please exercise caution on the roads driving to and from the meeting place.
