Warner Sanctuary Workday

Michigan Audubon’s Ronald H. Warner Sanctuary is a hidden gem in Barry County. Adjacent to the Barry State Game Area Global Important Bird Area, Warner is home to breeding forest birds and a number of threatened and endangered plants — and it needs your help to stay this way.

Each workday, Michigan Audubon staff and volunteers gather to remove invasive plants that threaten habitat health. These workdays are a great opportunity to get to know the sanctuary and help give back to the birds. Think of these workdays as “wild gardening” — these are mildly strenuous workdays that involve hiking around the sanctuary and cutting down invasive woody shrubs with hand pruners or hand saws, often in challenging locations. A good workout is guaranteed! We do take many snack and water breaks throughout the workday.

Wild raspberries, poison ivy, and biting insects are common so please dress appropriately in close-toed boots, long sleeves, pants, and a hat. Please bring leather or gardening gloves if you have them, but we do have extras on site to borrow. Water and snacks will be available but feel free to bring extras if you like.

This event is weather dependent. Rain or thunderstorms will cancel the event. If you RSVP you will receive up-to-date information on changes to this event. Please note that our sanctuaries do not have bathrooms or running water at this time.*
