Chapter Event – Hindle-Ross Trails – Petoskey Regional Audubon Society

Tuesday, August 11, 2015 10:00 am

Leaders: Debbie Hindle & Ken Ross
Join PRAS members Debbie Hindle and Ken Ross on a guided walk along their two miles of well-maintained trails through rolling meadows and woodlands near Cross Village. Enjoy views of the Waugoshance Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula, and linger at the interesting seating areas they have created. Through their creativity and love for the land, they have turned their 80-acre property into a wonderful place to quietly observe nature and take leisurely walks. On the July walk 9 participants identified 29 species of birds and also saw deer, wildflowers and several species of butterflies including Monarch and Red Admiral. Bring binoculars, bug spray, sunscreen and hat. Don’t forget your camera, the views are amazing. Weather is changeable so bring layers. Plan on a 2-3 hour stroll on gently undulating terrain.  Dutch treat/group lunch to follow, at Legs Inn or Moose Jaw Junction, for those interested.

WEATHER NOTE: Our membership covers a large geographic area. Just because it’s raining in your location, it doesn’t mean that rain is also at the field trip location. When checking the weather report, check for Cross Village weather to get an idea of what the day will hold. Our hosts and Audubon members Ken and Debbie live on the property and will be there rain or shine.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: Please be courteous to the residents along this local, unpaved road. DRIVE SLOWLY to  keep the level of dust and noise down. It is important to maintain good relations with the neighbors. Even better, please carpool if you’re able.

Directions:  From Cross Village go east on Levering Road about 1.5 miles, then turn south on Lookout Road.  Go approx. one-half mile to the top of Lookout Road where it dead-ends, and turn into the field at the right to park.  The walk will start from there.

From the south, take US-31 north to Levering Road. Go east 10 miles. Pass Hill Road on your left. Turn south on Lookout road and follow directions above.
