Fall is quickly approaching, and migration season is upon us once again. Birds face many challenges and dangers during migration, and Lights Out programs are one way people can help limit threats birds encounter along their journey.

Although we see many birds migrating throughout the day, 80% of migratory birds travel during the night, using the moon and stars to navigate. Lights from cities can cause birds to become disoriented and confused and lead to collisions with buildings. By turning off unused lights in tall buildings, we can help prevent the disorientation and death of many of our migratory birds.

Join Susan Elbin, former director of conservation and science at NYC Audubon, as she discusses the importance of Lights Out programs. Tune in to learn more about the problem and solutions to help our feathered friends have a successful and safer migration.

We will also be broadcasting the webinar live through our Facebook page and a recording will be made available following the event.
