Wow, this is too big for me to explain. Here is what Charles St. Charles says, “The project I am going to describe in my presentation may be the largest project ever attempted by a single photographer. I am visiting all 15 of the major eco-regions in the continent and featuring each one in a separate edition of a digital publication. At the same time I am leaving time-lapse cameras behind, largely hosted by national and state parks. So when I am done I’ll have 90 cameras in the field that are shooting time-lapse, and I’ll be able to put up a map of the entire continent with near real-time images of each region. You’ll be able to tap on any region in the continent and see what is going on in the natural world in that region.”
This is a personal project for Charles. He is a professional photographer. He is launching a digital publication that will feature a different season in each eco-region of the North American continent with each issue. During his shoots, Charles finds hosts for his time-lapse cameras. Of course the photographs are finding other uses: park visitor centers, in studies of controlled burns, and desert pollinators.
Someday, Charles hopes, we will be able to walk through a floor map of the North American continent watching on monitors as the seasons display their natural wonders in that region.
