Thornapple Woodpecker Festival, now in its eighth year, provides for festival-goers a paved trail along the Thornapple River with birding guides that has an established population of the Redheaded Woodpecker as well as the other more common Eastern woodpeckers.  The trees are short on the south side of the trail so warblers and swallows are easy to see. There are ponds and marsh areas where waterfowl can be found.  A golf cart is provided for those that would rather ride.  Speakers on nature-related topics are available throughout the day, as well as nature related crafts. The 1922 Trail Depot will be open to show the history of the railroad during the day.  Sponsored by the Grand Rapids Audubon Club.
