Grassland birds are in the steepest decline of any other habitat group in North America. In response to the continued loss of these incredible bird species and their habitat, many well-intentioned conservationists have reconstructed prairies to provide habitat for grassland specialists. But are their efforts working, and if not, how come? An ongoing breeding bird monitoring program on Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy preserves may shed some light on these challenges. We’ll explore this conundrum and the wider efforts to save charismatic species like Bobolinks and Eastern meadowlarks during this joint presentation.
The presenters for this program are Mitch Lettow, Stewardship Director for the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy, and Dr. Sharon Gill, professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University.

We hope you’ll join us on Monday, March 25, at People’s Church, 1758 North 10th Street, Kalamazoo. Come at 7:00 PM for some refreshments and socializing. Snacks and beverages will be provided. The one-hour program will start at 7:30. Masks are recommended but not required in the church. Handicap parking and access is at either the front or the rear entrance.
