Michigan Audubon is pleased to welcome Penny Briscoe to host the workshop, “How to be a Good Purple Martin Landlord.” Briscoe is a local expert with more than 25 years’ experience. The workshop will be held at the Michigan Audubon office. Learn how to acquire and install suitable housing, prepare nests for spring arrival, and perform regular nest checks to ensure the survival of young birds. Briscoe will also share useful internet resources and discuss recording and submitting data.

Four new purple martin houses on public property have been installed in the Lansing area, with several more to come this spring. Volunteers are needed to monitor activity at these houses to ensure the birds are safe and thriving. If you don’t have a purple martin house yourself, this is a great opportunity to “adopt” a colony! If you are interested in adopting a Lansing colony, this workshop will provide excellent training on how to get started. Please contact us if you would like to adopt a purple martin house near you.
