Capital City Bird Sanctuary Open House
May 4 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
Join Michigan Audubon in a celebration of World Migratory Bird Day and Capital City Bird Sanctuary Open House! World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated worldwide; the 2019 WMBD theme is “Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution!” Learn about this problem, and about what you can do at home and in your community to help birds. Family-friendly activities and a variety of guided bird and nature walks will be held throughout the morning.
May 4th is also Global Big Day! We will participate as a group by recording what birds we see on the guided bird walk, and you can participate, too, by using eBird throughout the day! For more information on how to contribute to this global-scale snapshot of bird communities, visit https://ebird.org/news/global-big-day-4-may-2019.
You will want to park at Hawk Meadow Park, 6160 Delta River Drive, Lansing, MI 48906, and enter the sanctuary from the trailhead across the street.
From Waverly: head west at the intersection of Waverly and Delta River Drive. After 1.5 miles, you will see an open lot with downed trees along the south side of the road. Slow for the hidden, gated driveway on the south side of the road.
From I-69: head east on W. Saginaw Hwy and after 1 mile, turn north on Creyts. Continue on Creyts (becomes Webster at Willow Hwy) until it dead-ends at Delta River Drive. Turn east and drive 0.1 mile, past Hawk Meadow Park, and slow around the curve to find the hidden, gated driveway on the south side of the road.
