DESCRIPTION:Join us at a Sanctuary Bioblitz Exploration Day! \nFriday\, August 21\, 9am – 12pm \nMartha Mott Sanctuary\, Mattawan \nOur bioblitz lasts all summer long\, but we would love for you to join us for a special day of exploration and discovery with Michigan Audubon staff! \nEach Bioblitz Exploration Day will begin at 9am or 1pm with a brief overview\, observation instructions\, and a short walk to get you started. Stay for a few hours\, or enjoy the sanctuary for as long as you would like. SUMMARY:Martha Mott Sanctuary Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Martha Mott Sanctuary Workday on Tuesday\, October 17\, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will continue to chip away at autumn olive and remove the young sassafras that are beginning to invade the prairie. Hand tools will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own handsaw or pair of loppers. If you have power tools such as a chainsaw or brush cutter\, along with proper personal protective equipment\, please bring those if you would like. We may not use all the power tools brought. \nPlease come dressed and supplied appropriately for working outdoors. This includes gloves\, closed-toed shoes\, pants\, water\, sunscreen\, and insect repellent. SUMMARY:Winter Workday at Martha Mott Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:A former farmstead and woodlot\, this 80-acre sanctuary has a fine stand of oaks\, hickory\, and walnut. There are open and shrubby fields along with some low swamplands. This little-known preserve near Kalamazoo is a great place to spot birds\, even during the winter. Help us protect this nature preserve and improve accessibility to visitors by helping us maintain the trail\, remove invasive woody shrubs\, and improve native habitats. Please come prepared for outdoor work\, dressing for the weather; wear non-cotton layers\, long pants\, long sleeves\, close-toed boots (hiking boots\, snow boots\, or rubber boots work well)\, and a warm hat and gloves. Bring water and snacks\, although we will have some on hand to share. This event is weather dependent. If an event is canceled\, all those who RSVP will receive an email by 5 p.m. the evening before. No experience is necessary\, and we will provide all tools.
