SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance - Walks at Nichols Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Fall Migration Walks at Nichols Arboretum\nThursday\, August 27 @ 8:00 am – 11:00 am \n\n\n\n Did you know there are more individual warblers migrating through our region in the fall than in the spring? Since these are the “confusing fall warblers\,” some birders leave fall migration to experts. Not us at WBNA! Join us each fall Thursday morning at Nichols Arboretum to find and identify fall migrant warblers\, thrushes\, vireos\, waterfowl\, and many others. Come at 8:00 AM and stay as long as you like. \nAll are welcome and encouraged to join us. New to birding? Bird curious? No binoculars? No problem! There is no better way to learn than to get out in the field with experienced birders that love to help. Plus\, you get to meet awesome people. Absolutely everyone is welcome and encouraged to come out. We will have many pairs of quality binoculars on hand for anyone to use. \nDirections: Meet at the east end of the Arboretum at the Dow Prairie entrance on Riverview Dr. From Geddes Ave.\, turn north onto Riverview and stay right until it terminates at the cul-de-sac. (Map) \neBird Checklist Signup: If you are attending the walk and would like the eBird checklist shared with you\, please give us your email or eBird username here (you can sign up to receive the eBird checklist during the walk as well). \nLeader: Juliet Berger \n\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: WBNA- Bikes & Shorebirds at Pointe Mouillee
DESCRIPTION:Bikes and Shorebirds at Pointe Mouillee State Game Area\n\nSaturday\, August 15 @ 8:30 am – 12:30 pm\n\n\n\nPointe Mouillee\, on Lake Erie near the mouth of the Huron River\, is one of the premier destinations in the Midwest for viewing shorebirds and waders. Access for cars is limited—but not for bikes! Join Andy Dettling for a pedal around the Pointe looking for shorebirds\, waders\, and other waterfowl. \nThe biking will be at a slow pace on gravel and dirt roads with frequent stops. Bikes with gravel tires or larger are recommended\, though a road bike may be suitable for more experienced/careful riders. \nBring insect repellent\, wear a hat/helmet\, and dress for warm weather—there is no shade or shelter at Pointe Mouillee. Bring all of the food and fluids you think you will need to sustain you for approximately four hours of birding. \nWe will access Pte. Mouillee via the parking lot off of Turnpike Rd. For those who have attended past WBNA trips to Pte. Mouillee\, please note that this is not the vehicle access gate on Sigler Rd. \nLooking for a ride with a bike rack? Have a bike rack and are willing to drive others? Please fill out this survey and we will do our best to pair willing drivers with those looking for a ride. (We cannot guarantee rides for everyone who requests one\, and carpools will be arranged on a first-come first-served basis.) \nFill Out the Carpool Survey \nLeader: Andy Dettling \nTo receive the checklist: tinyurl.com/ebirdlist \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance - World Migratory Bird Day
DESCRIPTION:Please join dozens of enthusiastic volunteers for the Washtenaw County May Count\, on World Migratory Bird Day and eBird’s Global Big Day. This event is a day to be out there counting all the birds we can find\, and it’s a super fun Big Day! \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER! \nJuliet Berger is the organizer for this countywide count\, which uses eBird to benefit bird science with its comprehensive results. The organizer divides the county into townships\, each of which has an Area Leader. Leaders recruit additional volunteers to count birds throughout their area. \nWe could always use more volunteers across the county\, as well as a couple of township leaders. Come join in the fun and go birding! \nWashtenaw County May Count Organizer and Compiler: Juliet Berger \nHere are the basics for volunteers: \n\nEvery counter should use eBird to record birds at every site you visit for birding.\nSave each list indicating 2 observers\, even if you are the only observer. This enables the sharing option via mobile devices\, which you need in the next step.\nShare each list with the eBird township username for the township in which you are birding. These usernames are in the table on the website. Please do this as soon as possible; preferably by the end of the day\, but certainly by the end of the weekend.\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.
