DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, July 18\, the Michigan Loon Preservation Association will conduct its First Michigan Loon Count. \nThis effort will create an important statewide snapshot of Michigan’s loon population. The information you collect will help us better understand population trends\, identify conservation priorities\, and strengthen our efforts to protect loons and the lakes they call home. \nParticipating is simple: \n\nRegister at link below. On the day of the event you will get a text or email with a link to file your report.\n\nRegister Michigan Loon Count \n\nOn July 18\, count and record the number of loons observed on your lake.\nSubmit your observations through our reporting system.\n\nEvery loon lake matters. Thank you for your help!  \nWhether your lake has one loon pair\, several families\, or no loons at all\, your observations provide valuable information. \nConservation decisions are only as good as the data behind them\, and citizen scientists like you make that work possible. \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. DESCRIPTION:This Fourth of July\, enjoy Michigan’s beautiful lakes responsibly. A little extra care by every boater can help ensure that loon chicks survive to become the next generation of Michigan’s loons.\n\nCelebrate safely. Boat responsibly. Help keep Michigan’s lakes alive with the haunting call of the loon.\n\nAdult loons are the future of the population. They live a long time\, but raise very few chicks each year\, and many of those chicks never make it to adulthood. Because of this\, loon populations depend heavily on high adult survival. Losing even one breeding adult can mean the loss of many future generations of chicks. They are barely able to sustain their populations.\n\nFor more information or to support loon conservation\, contact the Michigan Loon Preservation Association.
