Grace Huizinga | Lowell, MI
2024 Board Candidate

I am a doctoral-prepared nurse and have been in clinical practice and academia for 40 years. I have also created a successful non-profit organization (Grand Rapids LGBTQ+ Healthcare Consortium) and remain on the BOD for this organization. I currently hold the office of President-elect for our local Rotary Club of 50 members. These experiences and opportunities have provided many situations that require strong and collaborative leadership skills.

Why do you want to serve as a board member for Michigan Audubon, and what would you like to contribute?

My love of birds started in childhood and continues to this day. I am deeply concerned about bird conversation and the complex nature of preservation in today’s modern world. I would like to participate as an Audubon BOD and have the skills to collaborate, critically process information, team build, listen and approach problems from a creative angle.

What is your favorite bird and why?

I enjoy all birds and the art of birding. I’m also an artist and include birds in many ways. Owls and raptors are some of my favorites because their amazing sounds, presence, and beauty simply strike my heart.
