SUMMARY:Great Backyard Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) takes place each year during the second week of February. This fun\, free\, family-friendly activity is a great way to engage both beginner and experienced birders in citizen science. \nParticipating in the count is as simple as counting birds for as little as 15 minutes on one or more days of the count then reporting the results online at BirdCount.org. All of the observations submitted to the GBBC are automatically entered into eBird. The data are available to explore using a number of different tools on eBird.org and BirdCount.org. Regular eBird users can participate by entering checklists into eBird as usual during the count. \nLast year\, GBBC participants in more than 100 countries counted more than 6\,800 species of birds on more than 200\,000 checklists\, providing an incredible snapshot of winter bird populations and distribution in North America and beyond. Learn more about this fantastic citizen science event at gbbc.birdcount.org/. \nRead our blog for a quick overview of how to take part in the GBBC.

SUMMARY:Winter Workdays at CCBS
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a stewardship workday at Capital City Bird Sanctuary\, northwest of downtown Lansing. This little-known preserve is a great place to spot birds even during the non-breeding seasons\, including Wild Turkey\, White- and Red-breasted Nuthatches\, and Brown Creeper. Help us protect this urban nature preserve by removing invasive woody shrubs and encouraging native habitats. Please come prepared for outdoor work\, dressing for the weather; wear non-cotton layers\, long pants\, long sleeves\, close-toed boots (hiking boots or rubber boots work well)\, and a warm hat and gloves. Bring leather work gloves\, water\, and snacks\, although we will have extras on hand. This event is weather dependent. If an event is canceled\, all those who RSVP will receive an email by 5 p.m. the evening before. \nContact Linnea Rowse at lrowse@michiganaudubon.org or 517-580-7364 with any questions or to RSVP. \nWe hope to see you at the sanctuary! \nMeet at: Parking lot at 6001 Delta River Dr.\, Lansing\, MI 48906.
