SUMMARY:Chimney Swift Tower Build
DESCRIPTION:We are seeking volunteers to assist with the installation of a Chimney Swift tower at Woldumar Nature Center! \nMichigan Audubon and partner Woldumar Nature Center are looking for helpers who can hold a hammer or power drill\, mix Quikrete cement\, and/or climb a ladder. This fun project will benefit Chimney Swifts\, a bird species dependent on human structures for nest sites. \nThe first work date for the installation is June 18 at 1:30 p.m. We will put together a foundation box\, level the tower legs and base\, and mix and pour concrete. DESCRIPTION:No Family Left Indoors continues the tradition of inspiring families to spend time outdoors with free\, fun activities around Barry County. These programs are a great way to discover new places\, learn about different organizations in Barry County\, and have fun outdoors. \nDuring this free program\, families can explore nature’s hidden treasures on a fun guided nature hike at Otis Sanctuary! Groups will leave the parking lot at 6:30\, 6:45\, and 7 p.m.\, guided by trail gurus and nature enthusiasts from the North Country Trail Association and Barry Conservation District. \nSpace is limited so pre-registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Do you enjoy spending time outdoors in nature? Are you into native plants\, birds\, butterflies\, and other members of the natural community? Join Michigan Audubon at our sanctuary stewardship workdays\, weekly on Wednesdays from April through October\, at Capital City Bird Sanctuary! We will combine fun facts and learning basic stewardship skills with taking care of our local bird sanctuary. \nThis little-known preserve is a great place to spot breeding Eastern Bluebird\, Rose-breasted Grosbeak\, Warbling Vireo\, and Eastern Kingbird. Help us protect this urban nature preserve by removing invasive garlic mustard and dame’s rocket and encouraging native habitats. Please come prepared for outdoor work; wear long pants\, long sleeves\, close-toed shoes\, and a hat. Bring work gloves\, water\, snacks\, insect repellent\, and sunscreen\, although we will have extras on hand. This event is weather dependent. If an event is canceled\, all those who RSVP will receive an email by 5 p.m. the day before. \nContact Linnea Rowse at lrowse@michiganaudubon.org or 517-580-7364 with any questions or to RSVP. \nWe hope to see you at the sanctuary! \nMeet at the volunteer parking lot at 6001 Delta River Dr.\, Lansing\, MI 48906. \nDirections:\nFrom Waverly: head west at the intersection of Waverly and Delta River Drive. After 1.5 miles\, you will see an open lot with downed trees along the south side of the road. Slow for the hidden\, gated driveway on the south side of the road.\nFrom I-69: head east on W. Saginaw Hwy and after 1 mile\, turn north on Creyts. Continue on Creyts (becomes Webster at Willow Hwy) until it dead-ends at Delta River Drive. Turn east and drive 0.1 mile\, past Hawk Meadow Park\, and slow around the curve to find the hidden\, gated driveway on the south side of the road.
