SUMMARY:Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Event – Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary\nWednesday\, September 30\, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.\n6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing\, MI\nPlease join Michigan Audubon to help plant plugs in a new native plant demonstration garden at their Lansing sanctuary\, Capital City Bird Sanctuary\, on Wednesday\, September 30th from 9am – 6pm (or later\, if there is interest). Limited parking is available at this address\, with overflow parking available across the street at Hawk Meadow Park. Please RSVP if you plan to attend so we can be sure to have enough snacks and beverages. SUMMARY:Stewardship Workdays at Capital City Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Join us to improve habitat for birds!\nStewardship Workdays 9 am – 12 pm \neach Wednesday May through October and 2nd and 4th Saturdays June through August\n6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing\, MI\n  \nEvery Wednesday\, Michigan Audubon staff and volunteers gather to remove invasive plants that threaten habitat health at our Lansing sanctuary. Tasks vary by season\, but typically range from hand-pulling weeds to hand-sawing invasive shrubs. \nThink of these workdays as “extreme gardening” – these are mildly strenuous workdays that involve hiking around the sanctuary and manually removing invasive weeds\, often in challenging locations. A good workout is guaranteed! We do take many snack and water breaks throughout the workday. \nWild raspberries\, poison ivy\, and biting insects are common so please dress appropriately with close-toed boots\, long sleeves\, pants\, and a hat. Insect repellent and sunscreen are recommended\, and we will have extras available. \nIf you are allergic to stinging insects\, please bring an EpiPen and inform the event leader.\nPlease bring gardening or leather gloves if you have them\, but we do have extras on site to borrow. As always\, we will provide water and snacks! \n  \nSign up for a workday below!\n \n  \nIf you have questions please email Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org.

SUMMARY:Milkweed Planting Workday at Haehnle Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Monarch butterfly on grass-leaved goldenrod \nHelp Support Monarchs at Haehnle Sanctuary!\nMonarch Watch granted Michigan Audubon 450 milkweed seedlings to help support monarchs and pollinators at Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary. If you’d like to help\, please join us at Haehnle on Friday\, June 10 from 9am – Noon for a planting workday. \n\n\n\nOn Friday we will split into teams\, each taking a flat or two of plants to fill the marked areas. These areas will require a short to medium walk from the parking lot. We will provide maps\, a limited supply of tools\, snacks\, and bottled water. Please bring the following if you can: watering can\, gallons or buckets of water\, gardening gloves\, small rake\, hand trowel or plug planter. Swamp milkweed will be planted in slightly wetter areas\, so please bring rubber boots if you’re willing to work in low spots. Please dress for a morning in the outdoors: sunscreen\, insect repellent\, hat\, long pants\, long-sleeved shirt\, and closed-toe shoes are recommended. There are no restrooms available at the sanctuary.\n\n\n\nMeet at 9am in the Haehnle Parking lot on Seymour Road\, across from 9011 Seymour Rd.\, Leoni Township\, MI 49240.\n\n\n\n\nPlease contact Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org if you can come out to help us plant milkweed.
