Insect repellent and sunscreen are recommended\, and we will have extras available. \nIf you are allergic to stinging insects\, please bring an EpiPen and inform the event leader.\nPlease bring gardening or leather gloves if you have them\, but we do have extras on site to borrow. As always\, we will provide water and snacks! \nIf you have questions\, or would like to sign up to attend a workday\, please email Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org.

SUMMARY:Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Event – Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary\nWednesday\, September 30\, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.\n6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing\, MI\nPlease join Michigan Audubon to help plant plugs in a new native plant demonstration garden at their Lansing sanctuary\, Capital City Bird Sanctuary\, on Wednesday\, September 30th from 9am – 6pm (or later\, if there is interest). Volunteers can join in at anytime during the day and are welcome to stay as long as they like. We are looking for volunteers with general gardening experience who will use care when planting the native plugs\, so this event is likely not suitable for small children. Please bring planting tools such as trowels and bulb planters. If you have any extras that you are willing to bring and let others use\, we would really appreciate it. Snacks and drinks will be provided\, but you may want to pack a lunch if you plan to stay for a long time. \nCapital City Bird Sanctuary is located at 6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing. Limited parking is available at this address\, with overflow parking available across the street at Hawk Meadow Park. Please RSVP if you plan to attend so we can be sure to have enough snacks and beverages. Please email Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org or call the MA office at 517-580-7364. \n \nNative Sand Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) and Red Admiral butterfly. \nCapital City Bird Sanctuary – Bird Garden – Planted Fall 2014

SUMMARY:Stewardship Workdays at Capital City Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Join us to improve habitat for birds!\nStewardship Workdays 9 am – 12 pm\neach Wednesday May through October and 2nd and 4th Saturdays June through August\n6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing\, MI\n  \nOn second and fourth Saturdays throughout the summer\, Michigan Audubon staff and volunteers gather to remove invasive plants that threaten habitat health at our Lansing sanctuary. These Saturday workdays are led by veteran woody invasive remover Sam Febba. \nThink of these workdays as “extreme gardening” – these are mildly strenuous workdays that involve hiking around the sanctuary and manually removing invasive weeds\, often in challenging locations. A good workout is guaranteed! We do take many snack and water breaks throughout the workday. \nWild raspberries\, poison ivy\, and biting insects are common so please dress appropriately with close-toed boots\, long sleeves\, pants\, and a hat. \n  \nSign up for a workday below!\n \n  \nIf you have questions please email Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org.
