SUMMARY:Grand Rapids Audubon Club Event
DESCRIPTION:Chapter Event – Fall Warblers at Reeds Lake – Grand Rapids Audubon Club Event\nSeptember 26\, 2015 8:00 AM\nTrip Leader: Steve Minard\nReeds Lake is still one of the better spots in the area for warblers. Catching the right time does seem to be trickier and the peak fall dates seem to have shifted later. Hopefully this date works\, if it does\, we can expect about 10 species of fall warblers. In recent years\, good numbers of Blackpoll\, Yellow-rumped\, Nashville\, Black-throated Green\, and Tennessee Warblers have been sighted here. The combination of residences\, lake\, marsh\, and remnant woodlands does seem to produce a variety of birds at this location. \nEssentials: Meet on the northwest end of Darby where it meets Reeds Lake Blvd near the bluff. Reach Darby off Bonnell. Bonnell is off Lake Dr midway between Breton and Hall St in East Grand Rapids at 8:00 AM. We plan to walk a 1-mile route and retrace our steps to Darby. \nSafety Hazards: Bugs are possible and poison ivy grows along side the road. Take precautions. The road is open to traffic\, so watch for cars\, bikes\, lawnmowers and ORVs. Please exercise caution on the roads driving to and from the meeting place. \nQuestions? Call Steve Minard at (616) 942-7165

SUMMARY:Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Event – Native Garden Planting at Capital City Bird Sanctuary\nWednesday\, September 30\, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.\n6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing\, MI\nPlease join Michigan Audubon to help plant plugs in a new native plant demonstration garden at their Lansing sanctuary\, Capital City Bird Sanctuary\, on Wednesday\, September 30th from 9am – 6pm (or later\, if there is interest). Volunteers can join in at anytime during the day and are welcome to stay as long as they like. We are looking for volunteers with general gardening experience who will use care when planting the native plugs\, so this event is likely not suitable for small children. Please bring planting tools such as trowels and bulb planters. If you have any extras that you are willing to bring and let others use\, we would really appreciate it. Snacks and drinks will be provided\, but you may want to pack a lunch if you plan to stay for a long time. \nCapital City Bird Sanctuary is located at 6001 Delta River Drive\, Lansing. Limited parking is available at this address\, with overflow parking available across the street at Hawk Meadow Park. Please RSVP if you plan to attend so we can be sure to have enough snacks and beverages. Please email Rachelle Roake at RRoake@michiganaudubon.org or call the MA office at 517-580-7364. \n \nNative Sand Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) and Red Admiral butterfly. \nCapital City Bird Sanctuary – Bird Garden – Planted Fall 2014
