SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Michigan Loon Preservation Loon Count
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, July 18\, the Michigan Loon Preservation Association will conduct its First Michigan Loon Count. \nThis effort will create an important statewide snapshot of Michigan’s loon population. The information you collect will help us better understand population trends\, identify conservation priorities\, and strengthen our efforts to protect loons and the lakes they call home. \nParticipating is simple: \n\nRegister at link below. On the day of the event you will get a text or email with a link to file your report.\n\nRegister Michigan Loon Count \n\nOn July 18\, count and record the number of loons observed on your lake.\nSubmit your observations through our reporting system.\n\nEvery loon lake matters. Thank you for your help!  \nWhether your lake has one loon pair\, several families\, or no loons at all\, your observations provide valuable information. \nConservation decisions are only as good as the data behind them\, and citizen scientists like you make that work possible. \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:Keep Loons Safe During July 4th Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:This Fourth of July\, enjoy Michigan’s beautiful lakes responsibly. A little extra care by every boater can help ensure that loon chicks survive to become the next generation of Michigan’s loons.\n\nCelebrate safely. Boat responsibly. Help keep Michigan’s lakes alive with the haunting call of the loon.\n\nAdult loons are the future of the population. They live a long time\, but raise very few chicks each year\, and many of those chicks never make it to adulthood. Because of this\, loon populations depend heavily on high adult survival. Losing even one breeding adult can mean the loss of many future generations of chicks. They are barely able to sustain their populations.\n\nFor more information or to support loon conservation\, contact the Michigan Loon Preservation Association.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Michigan Clean Water Corps: Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Detection Blitz
DESCRIPTION:MiCorps Aquatic Invasive Species Detection Blitz\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz is a statewide community science event aimed at identifying and documenting aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels\, Eurasian watermilfoil\, or anything else you suspect may be invasive in Michigan’s lakes\, rivers\, and wetlands. Organized by the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps)\, this Blitz welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds\, whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a first-time observer. Between June 29 and July 12\, 2026\, simply snap photos of potential invasive species and upload them to the MiCorps project on the free iNaturalist app. By working together in this coordinated effort\, we can track the spread of AIS\, strengthen early detection strategies\, and inform better management decisions. Whether you’re on the water for the July 4th holiday or just enjoying a local spot\, every observation counts! \nParticipants do not need to be experts in aquatic invasive species to take part. Birders can help by documenting mute swans\, and they are also welcome to upload photos of any suspected aquatic invasive plants or animals they notice near the water. If you are not sure what something is\, you can upload the observation anyway\, and the iNaturalist community can help with identification. Once you join the project on iNaturalist\, anything uploaded during the event window is automatically added to a statewide AIS map.\n\nThis is a simple way for people already observing Michigan’s waters and wetlands to contribute to a larger community science effort.\n\nThe easiest way to get started is to download the free iNaturalist app\, search “2026 MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz\,” and join the project.\n\niNaturalist project link:\nhttps://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2026-micorps-ais-detection-blitz-849bdc20-614a-42dd-ae4b-ee418e0e2df4\n\n\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Audubon Society of Kalamazoo - Kal Haven Trail Walks
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays in April & May – 9:00 AM \nKal Haven Trail\, Kalamazoo \nContinuing the years’ long tradition of Tuesday morning trail walks\, our weekly Kal-Haven Trail walks will be on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM in April and May\, starting April 7. We will meet and start at the trailhead on North 10th Street between G and H Avenues. A few of us walk 2.5 miles to the usually very birdy marsh at 8th Street and then back for a total of 5 miles\, but anyone can cut that short and turn around at any time. There will not be a “leader\,” although someone will be keeping a species list. \nFeel free to arrange your own spotting or shuttling of cars. The Kal-Haven Trail walks are handicap accessible. \nIf you would like to be in an email group to be notified of the latest status of the walks or to discuss weather conditions\, please send an email to Donna Keller at askpresident@kalamazooaudubon.org. \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.
