SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon - Saturday Morning Birding Walks
DESCRIPTION:The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society invites you to birding walks at Little Traverse Conservancy’s Waldron Fen Preserve on Saturday mornings during the month of May at 8am. \nSpot migratory and resident bird species on this hike throughout a variety of habitats led by trip leader Brooke Knickerbocker – an enthusiastic birder and high school student. This preserve has nearly 2 miles of trails\, two small ponds\, a viewing platform\, and is a sizable wetland-fen complex. Expect this walk to take two to three hours. \nWe will meet in the dirt parking lot next to the Waldron Fen Nature Preserve sign off Banwell Road (look for the LTC sign). The parking area is unpaved and offers no restroom facilities. Bug spray is strongly encouraged. Trails can be muddy. Proper footwear is a must. The trail is a loop and there is no short-cut back. \nThe Fen truly is a magical spot with 148 acres. For example\, on one morning in May 2025 our small group called 51 species and 137 individual birds. The terrain is uneven\, sometimes wet\, and bug spray is always recommended. As you can imagine\, birds love this kind of habitat; but it’s not for everyone. \n  \nNotes:  \n\nRSVP is not necessary to attend the bird walk. Just show up.\nBring binoculars if you have them. If not\, loaner pairs will be available.\nBeginning birders always welcome.\nNo pets. No smoking.\nDress for conditions and insect protection.\nDirections – From Alanson\, head east on M-68 to Banwell Road. Turn right. Continue on Banwell 3.3 miles to entrance on left.\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

During the walking tours\, participants will start at Fish Ladder Park and explore the riverfront while learning about the Grand River restoration project\, the river’s ecology\, and the history that shaped this important stretch of downtown Grand Rapids. \nThe paddling trip offers a chance to experience the Grand River from the water on a scenic route from Lowell to Ada\, with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy the river up close. All experience levels are welcome. \nWhether you are a longtime watershed advocate\, a local leader\, a community member\, or simply curious about the future of the Grand River\, the Spring Forum is a great opportunity to learn\, ask questions\, and connect with others who care about protecting and improving water quality across West Michigan. All are welcome! \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Audubon Society of Kalamazoo - Kal Haven Trail Walks

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Audubon Bird Walk at Oden Fish Hatchery
DESCRIPTION:Explore the trails at the Oden Fish Hatchery in search of migrating and nesting birds. We will bird the evergreen and deciduous woodlands\, as well as ponds\, wetland habitats\, and open areas near the hatchery buildings. Most trails are paved\, flat and broad. The trails are easy to navigate and you are free to turn around at any point in the walk.\n\nGood news! All of the renovations to the parking lot and visitors center are complete. (Last year the group was bedeviled by reconstruction in the parking area and visitors center.) SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon Society - Wednesday Walks
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Evening Birding Walks at Sportsman’s Park East Jordan\nThe Petoskey Regional Audubon Society invites you to birding walks at Sportsman’s Park in East Jordan\, on Wednesdays in May from 6:30-8pm. During this walk we will explore multiple habitat types.  Participants will meet at the Sportsman’s Park parking area.  Please bring your binoculars. Knowledgeable guide and PRAS member and past President\, Darrell Lawson\, will be available for each group to identify bird species by sight or vocalization and to answer questions. \nThe first area we will visit is the platform overlooking the mouth of the Jordan River.  This location features a deep river channel bordered by mudflats and cattail marshes.  The area usually holds many dabbling ducks\, geese\, swans\, herons (potential for Great Egret)\, Sandhill Cranes\, coots\, and others.  Shorebirds may be patrolling the mudflats and river edges. \nThe second area we will visit is the new Don & Eileen Klein Nature Trail.  This walk includes some scrubby hardwood forest and an extensive boardwalk through a large cattail marsh.  Here there should be plenty of blackbirds\, sparrows\, and the potential for rails.  Raptors including Bald Eagles\, Red-tailed Hawks\, Red-shouldered Hawks\, Northern Harrier\, Osprey\, Merlin and others are a possibility in any area.  This walk should allow participants to see many of Michigan’s spectacular resident and migratory bird species! \nNotes:  \n\nRSVP is not necessary to attend the bird walk. Just show up.\nPlease do not bring pets as these can disrupt both the behavior of the birds and the birding experience for others.\nBring binoculars if you have them. If not\, loaner pairs will be available.\nRestrooms are available at the parking area.\nBeginning birders always welcome.\nNo pets. No smoking.\nChildren welcome with adult supervision.\nDress for conditions and insect protection.\n\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Grand Rapids Audubon Club - Evening at Roselle Park
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Evening at Roselle Park \nTuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, 6:00 PM  8:00 PM \nRoselle Park\, 1010 Grand River Drive NortheastAda\, MI\, 49301 \nRoselle Park is a good birding area right here in Kent County. It’s on the Grand River\, and has wetlands\, wooded edges\, and open areas. At this date\, warblers should still be moving and many of the sparrows and woodland birds should be present. We will plan to stick to the paved trails and avoid the water if there is flooding. \nEssentials: Meet at the Roselle Park parking lot by the visitor center. It’s entrance is across from Michigan Ave and north of the south parking lot entrance. This is west of Ada and south of Knapp along Grand River Dr. \nSafety Hazards: Drive safely to meet the group. Watch for traffic on the pathway. \nNOTE: While we love dogs\, we ask you to please NOT bring your pup(s) on club field trips\, as it can stress/frighten away the birds. Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays in April & May – 9:00 AM \nKal Haven Trail\, Kalamazoo \nContinuing the years’ long tradition of Tuesday morning trail walks\, our weekly Kal-Haven Trail walks will be on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM in April and May\, starting April 7. SUMMARY:Michigan Audubon Birdathon
DESCRIPTION:Community Powered. Science Driven.  \nBirdathon is back! This year we’re transforming our traditional Birdathon Big Day into a week-long celebration of birds\, research\, and community-powered conservation. \nFrom May 18-25\, chapter teams will each select a 24-hour period to count as many birds as possible at Michigan Audubon sanctuaries\, Michigan Nature Association properties and/or established eBird hotspots around the state. Every species documented contributes to a clearer understanding of bird diversity and habitat use during spring migration. \nOur Goal: Raise $15\,000 to strengthen bird research across Michigan! \nSupport the effort by making a general donation or by donating to a chapter team. \nEach chapter team receives 10% of the funds they raise\, and chapters with the most donations and the most recorded bird species will each receive 25% of the funds they raise. \nClick here to: \n\nSubmit a general donation\nSupport a chapter team\nLearn more about Birdathon

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon Society - Bear River Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council staff and the Petoskey Regional Audubon Society members for two guided birding walks along the Bear River this spring. Supported by the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation’s Little Traverse Bay Restoration Fund\, these events are part of a broader effort to connect people with the Bear River corridor and support ongoing restoration work through the Healing the Bear Initiative. \nWhether you’re brand new to birding or have years of experience\, all are welcome to join us in slowing down\, observing\, and appreciating the birds and habitats that make this ecosystem unique. Early May is an ideal time for birding. Brightly colored male birds are singing to attract a mate and establish a territory. The leaves on the trees are just opening up so it is easier to see the birds. \nOn the birding walk on May 18 we will walk along the Bear River to see and hear birds. It will take place 8:30am to 10:10am. We will meet at the Bear River Picnic Shelter. Parking is available on Quaintance Ave\, Petoskey.  The walk is free\, but please RSVP by clicking here. \nEvent Details:  \n\nWear Outdoor clothing (dress for the weather)\nWear Sturdy shoes\nBring Reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug\nBring Insect Repellent\nNo pets or smoking\nBring your Binoculars (a limited number will be available to borrow)\nRestrooms are available at the parking area\n\nWe’re grateful to Bearcub Outfitters for supporting our Bear River Birding events! Participants will receive a coupon for 15% off binoculars\, a great opportunity for first-time birders or anyone looking to upgrade their gear! \nCome explore the Bear River with us and discover how birds can offer new perspectives on the health and beauty of this important watershed.
