SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Audubon Society of Kalamazoo - Kal Haven Trail Walks

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon Society - Wednesday Walks
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Evening Birding Walks at Sportsman’s Park East Jordan\nThe Petoskey Regional Audubon Society invites you to birding walks at Sportsman’s Park in East Jordan\, on Wednesdays in May from 6:30-8pm. During this walk we will explore multiple habitat types.  Participants will meet at the Sportsman’s Park parking area.  Please bring your binoculars. Knowledgeable guide and PRAS member and past President\, Darrell Lawson\, will be available for each group to identify bird species by sight or vocalization and to answer questions. \nThe first area we will visit is the platform overlooking the mouth of the Jordan River.  This location features a deep river channel bordered by mudflats and cattail marshes.  The area usually holds many dabbling ducks\, geese\, swans\, herons (potential for Great Egret)\, Sandhill Cranes\, coots\, and others.  Shorebirds may be patrolling the mudflats and river edges. \nThe second area we will visit is the new Don & Eileen Klein Nature Trail.  This walk includes some scrubby hardwood forest and an extensive boardwalk through a large cattail marsh.  Here there should be plenty of blackbirds\, sparrows\, and the potential for rails.  Raptors including Bald Eagles\, Red-tailed Hawks\, Red-shouldered Hawks\, Northern Harrier\, Osprey\, Merlin and others are a possibility in any area.  This walk should allow participants to see many of Michigan’s spectacular resident and migratory bird species! \nNotes:  \n\nRSVP is not necessary to attend the bird walk. Just show up.\nPlease do not bring pets as these can disrupt both the behavior of the birds and the birding experience for others.\nBring binoculars if you have them. If not\, loaner pairs will be available.\nRestrooms are available at the parking area.\nBeginning birders always welcome.\nNo pets. No smoking.\nChildren welcome with adult supervision.\nDress for conditions and insect protection.\n\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description. \n\n\n\n\nAdd to calendar

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon - Saturday Morning Birding Walks
DESCRIPTION:The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society invites you to birding walks at Little Traverse Conservancy’s Waldron Fen Preserve on Saturday mornings during the month of May at 8am. \nSpot migratory and resident bird species on this hike throughout a variety of habitats led by trip leader Brooke Knickerbocker – an enthusiastic birder and high school student. This preserve has nearly 2 miles of trails\, two small ponds\, a viewing platform\, and is a sizable wetland-fen complex. Expect this walk to take two to three hours. \nWe will meet in the dirt parking lot next to the Waldron Fen Nature Preserve sign off Banwell Road (look for the LTC sign). The parking area is unpaved and offers no restroom facilities. Bug spray is strongly encouraged. Trails can be muddy. Proper footwear is a must. The trail is a loop and there is no short-cut back. \nThe Fen truly is a magical spot with 148 acres. For example\, on one morning in May 2025 our small group called 51 species and 137 individual birds. The terrain is uneven\, sometimes wet\, and bug spray is always recommended. As you can imagine\, birds love this kind of habitat; but it’s not for everyone. \n  \nNotes:  \n\nRSVP is not necessary to attend the bird walk. Just show up.\nBring binoculars if you have them. If not\, loaner pairs will be available.\nBeginning birders always welcome.\nNo pets. No smoking.\nDress for conditions and insect protection.\nDirections – From Alanson\, head east on M-68 to Banwell Road. Turn right. Continue on Banwell 3.3 miles to entrance on left.\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance - World Migratory Bird Day
DESCRIPTION:Please join dozens of enthusiastic volunteers for the Washtenaw County May Count\, on World Migratory Bird Day and eBird’s Global Big Day. This event is a day to be out there counting all the birds we can find\, and it’s a super fun Big Day! \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER! \nJuliet Berger is the organizer for this countywide count\, which uses eBird to benefit bird science with its comprehensive results. The organizer divides the county into townships\, each of which has an Area Leader. Leaders recruit additional volunteers to count birds throughout their area. \nWe could always use more volunteers across the county\, as well as a couple of township leaders. Come join in the fun and go birding! \nWashtenaw County May Count Organizer and Compiler: Juliet Berger \nHere are the basics for volunteers: \n\nEvery counter should use eBird to record birds at every site you visit for birding.\nSave each list indicating 2 observers\, even if you are the only observer. This enables the sharing option via mobile devices\, which you need in the next step.\nShare each list with the eBird township username for the township in which you are birding. These usernames are in the table on the website. Please do this as soon as possible; preferably by the end of the day\, but certainly by the end of the weekend.\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Petoskey Regional Audubon Society - Beginner Birding along the Bear River
DESCRIPTION:Join Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council staff and the Petoskey Regional Audubon Society members for two guided birding walks along the Bear River this spring. Supported by the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation’s Little Traverse Bay Restoration Fund\, these events are part of a broader effort to connect people with the Bear River corridor and support ongoing restoration work through the Healing the Bear Initiative. \nWhether you’re brand new to birding or have years of experience\, all are welcome to join us in slowing down\, observing\, and appreciating the birds and habitats that make this ecosystem unique. Early May is an ideal time for birding. Brightly colored male birds are singing to attract a mate and establish a territory. The leaves on the trees are just opening up so it is easier to see the birds. \nThe Beginner Birding Walk on May 11 will provide tips and recommendations for those just getting into bird watching\, followed by a walk along the Bear River to see and hear birds. It will take place 8:30am to 10:10am. We will meet at the Bear River Picnic Shelter. Parking is available on Quaintance Ave\, Petoskey.  The walk is free\, but please RSVP by clicking here. \n  \nEvent Details:  \n\nWear Outdoor clothing (dress for the weather)\nWear Sturdy shoes\nBring Reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug\nBring Insect Repellent\nNo pets or smoking.\nBring your Binoculars (a limited number will be available to borrow)\nRestrooms are available at the parking area\n\nWe’re grateful to Bearcub Outfitters for supporting our Bear River Birding events! SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Grand Rapids Audubon Club - May Birdy Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Grand Rapids Audubon Club’s Birdy Book Club\, hosted at Books & Mortar\, a locally owned\, independent book store. \nMonday\, May 11\, 2026\, 6:00-7:00 pm\, we’ll discuss “Birding Without Borders\,” by Noah Strycker \nBooks & Mortar: 966 Cherry St. SE\, Grand Rapids\, MI \nAbout the book:\nIn 2015\, Noah set himself a lofty goal: to become the first person to see half the planet’s birds in one year. For 365 days\, with a backpack\, binoculars and a series of one-way tickets\, he traveled across 41 countries and all seven continents\, eventually spotting 6\,042 species — by far the biggest birding year on record. \nThis is no travelogue or glorified checklist. Noah ventures deep into a world of blood-sucking leeches\, chronic sleep deprivation\, airline snafus\, breakdowns\, mudslides\, floods\, war zones\, ecologic devastation\, conservation triumphs\, common and iconic species\, and scores of passionate bird lovers around the globe. By pursuing the freest creatures on the planet\, he gains a unique perspective on the world they share with us — and offers a hopeful message that even as many birds face an uncertain future\, more people than ever are working to protect them. \n————————————————— \nAbout the club: \n\nBuy or borrow the book and complete the reading before the meeting. Get 10% off the price of the book if you purchase at Books & Mortar (mention it’s for the GRAC Birdy Book Club!)\nThere’s no cost to participate (apart from any books you opt to purchase). And you don’t need to be a club member\, or a birder\, to join us for the discussion! We love meeting new people\nBook club meets 6 to 7 p.m. generally on the second Monday of every other month (January\, March\, May\, July\, September\, November) except in the case of scheduling conflicts.\nTitles for the 2026 book club schedule (and past picks) are available on our website: https://www.graud.org/membershipmeetings-1\nThis is a space for mutually respectful\, curious and sometimes challenging conversations. SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Grand Rapids Audubon Club - Evening at Roselle Park
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Evening at Roselle Park \nTuesday\, May 12\, 2026\, 6:00 PM  8:00 PM \nRoselle Park\, 1010 Grand River Drive NortheastAda\, MI\, 49301 \nRoselle Park is a good birding area right here in Kent County. It’s on the Grand River\, and has wetlands\, wooded edges\, and open areas. At this date\, warblers should still be moving and many of the sparrows and woodland birds should be present. We will plan to stick to the paved trails and avoid the water if there is flooding. \nEssentials: Meet at the Roselle Park parking lot by the visitor center. SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Holland Audubon Club Program - Wildlife and Birding Photography
DESCRIPTION:Holland Audubon Club Monthly Meeting – Wildlife and Birding Photography by Hannah Cramer \nMay 12th at 7pm \nHope Church\, 77 W. 11th St. Holland MI; \nMasks optional but encouraged if you’re sniffly Peoplefeeders: Mary Foster & Sally Lambert “Wildlife and Birding Photography” by Hannah Cramer Another homegrown presentation by one of our own\, our new Treasurer\, Hannah Cramer is closing out our season with a delightful visual treat for us. After beginning her birdwatching journey in 2022\, Hannah began fusing her interests of digitalmedia and wildlife photography together. Although newer to the birding community\, Hannah has been hiking and backpacking in the great outdoors for many years\, and soon began using her background in stunning photography and videography to begin capturing these unique creatures. Join us as Hannah takes us through some of her best captures\, as well as tips and tricks for how you too can snap beautiful images of our feathered friends and other amazing wildlife. \nHannah has her bachelor’s degree of applied arts in digital media and photography from Central Michigan University. At CMU she took her first photography class and has continued to build her skills ever since. After graduating\, Hannah relocated to Colorado\, South Dakota\, and then Arkansas\, birding and hiking in many natural areas before finally relocating back to her hometown of Holland\, Michigan. This is her first presentation for HAC and is excited to share what she’s learned. \n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event.
