SUMMARY:COMMUNITY: Michigan Clean Water Corps: Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Detection Blitz
DESCRIPTION:MiCorps Aquatic Invasive Species Detection Blitz\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz is a statewide community science event aimed at identifying and documenting aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels\, Eurasian watermilfoil\, or anything else you suspect may be invasive in Michigan’s lakes\, rivers\, and wetlands. Organized by the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps)\, this Blitz welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds\, whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a first-time observer. Between June 29 and July 12\, 2026\, simply snap photos of potential invasive species and upload them to the MiCorps project on the free iNaturalist app. By working together in this coordinated effort\, we can track the spread of AIS\, strengthen early detection strategies\, and inform better management decisions. Whether you’re on the water for the July 4th holiday or just enjoying a local spot\, every observation counts! \nParticipants do not need to be experts in aquatic invasive species to take part. Birders can help by documenting mute swans\, and they are also welcome to upload photos of any suspected aquatic invasive plants or animals they notice near the water. If you are not sure what something is\, you can upload the observation anyway\, and the iNaturalist community can help with identification. Once you join the project on iNaturalist\, anything uploaded during the event window is automatically added to a statewide AIS map.\n\nThis is a simple way for people already observing Michigan’s waters and wetlands to contribute to a larger community science effort.\n\nThe easiest way to get started is to download the free iNaturalist app\, search “2026 MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz\,” and join the project.\n\niNaturalist project link:\nhttps://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2026-micorps-ais-detection-blitz-849bdc20-614a-42dd-ae4b-ee418e0e2df4\n\n\n\n\nThis event was submitted to our community calendar page by an outside organizer and is not a Michigan Audubon event. If you have questions\, please reach out to the event organizers or the contact information provided in the event description.

SUMMARY:Keep Loons Safe During July 4th Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:This Fourth of July\, enjoy Michigan’s beautiful lakes responsibly. A little extra care by every boater can help ensure that loon chicks survive to become the next generation of Michigan’s loons.\n\nCelebrate safely. Boat responsibly. Help keep Michigan’s lakes alive with the haunting call of the loon.\n\nAdult loons are the future of the population. They live a long time\, but raise very few chicks each year\, and many of those chicks never make it to adulthood. Because of this\, loon populations depend heavily on high adult survival. Losing even one breeding adult can mean the loss of many future generations of chicks. They are barely able to sustain their populations.\n\nFor more information or to support loon conservation\, contact the Michigan Loon Preservation Association.
