The Elk River Chain of Lakes LOON NETWORK is a project of Michigan Audubon, a 501c3 statewide non-profit organization in the Michigan. The LOON NETWORK is dedicated to protecting the common loon, a threatened species in Michigan. The Network’s programs include research, habitat protection, education and outreach.
“Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered,” consists of Donna Wilson Probes, Lawrence “Doc” Probes, Jim Hawley and David Swan. Reviving many of the well known hits such as “Puff the Magic Dragon,” “If I Had a Hammer,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and a host of others, the three seasoned musicians have duplicated the exact arrangements of Peter, Paul & Mary in order to create an authentic replica of the unique sound that dominated the folk scene in the sixties.
“Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered” made its Traverse City debut in 2010 following conversations with Noel Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow. When Yarrow and Stookey performed at Interlochen Center for the Arts in July of 2010, the trio had the opportunity to talk to them about the newly formed tribute band. Both Peter and Paul endorsed their efforts to keep the memory of Peter, Paul & Mary alive.
“In keeping with the tradition of social activism that is such a signature part of who Peter, Paul and Mary were in the late sixties and early seventies,” says Probes, “we want to make the same kind of contribution to the humanitarian and environmental efforts of our community.”
Jim Hawley is a well known solo artist who moved to Traverse City four years ago from Nashville following a career as a national touring musician. Donna Wilson Probes is the founder of the Grand Rapids Folk Arts Center and has performed folk music around west Michigan for 25 years. Lawrence “Doc” Probes is an Interlochen Arts Academy alumnus and earned his way through medical school playing bassoon in the Fort Worth Symphony orchestra. He is an avid folk musician and a regular lead player of TC Celtic. David Swan, who plays bass for the trio, is a dentist in Traverse City.
