How You Can Help

The Michigan Audubon Mission

Connecting People with Birds for the Benefit of Both

Preserving Our Natural Heritage

"All of us are in debt to the past; we drink from wells we have not dug; sit in the shade of trees we have not planted; enjoy seeing the stars, formed ages ago, through the clear night air."
—anonymous

A good way to help protect our environment is by remembering Michigan Audubon now; in your will, in a trust or as a beneficiary of insurance or other financial account.

Michigan Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable trust. All material and/or financial donations are completely tax deductible to the full extent of U.S. and Michigan law.

Please help support Michigan wildlife and habitat through Michigan Audubon by shopping at the On Line Nature Store and supporting Michigan Audubon in some of the ways shown below.

Michigan Audubon’s
Donors’ Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that Michigan Audubon donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in our not-for-profit organization and its causes they are asked to support, we declare that all Michigan Audubon donors have these rights:

  • To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way Michigan Audubon Society intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the Michigan Audubon Society governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  • To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  • To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing the Michigan Audubon Society will be professional in nature.
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired solicitors.
  • To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists Michigan Audubon might ever intend to share. (Michigan Audubon has a proud historical policy of not sharing Michigan Audubon mailing lists with any organizations)
  • To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.
